Who's Who in the ESSL Directorate
Dr. Guy Brasseur, Associate NCAR Director for ESSL
Prior to returning to NCAR as an Associate Director, Dr. Brasseur was Director of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology in Hamburg for six years, and headed NCAR's Atmospheric Chemistry Division from 1990 to 2000. He has continued as an NCAR senior scientist and senior research associate within the Advanced Study Program. A native of Belgium, Brasseur holds two engineering degrees and a doctorate in aeronomy from the Free University of Brussels, where his Ph.D. dissertation dealt with the effects of nitrogen oxides on stratospheric ozone. He completed his postdoctoral work at the Belgian Institute for Space Aeronomy, where he worked on advanced models of photochemistry and chemical transport in the middle atmosphere.
Dr. Annick Pouquet, ESSL Deputy Director
Dr. Pouquet's research has emphasized the fundamental nature of turbulent flow, especially in magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) turbulence. She employs high-resolution numerical simulations, mathematical analyses, and statistical theory to explore both compressible and incompressible flows. Her papers have contributed to our understanding of stochastic processes in complex systems, the non-linear magnetohydrodynamic dynamo, the weak turbulence formalism for MHD, and the characterization of the Jovian magnetosphere as a weak MHD turbulence flow. A central focus of her recent research has been the development of a direct numerical simulation code and the use of that code to explore topics in MHD turbulence. She came to NCAR from the Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur (formerly Observatoire de Nice), where she was director of the Cassini Laboratory.
