I spent most of my time on TIIMES this year leading and coordinating the Water Cycle Program. The major activities have been running a retreat, holding steering committee meetings, giving presentations, coordinated a monthly Water Cycle talk at the NCAR Directors meeting, and having monthly Convective Parameterization meetings of a group of Water Cycle and other interested NCAR and University scientists. This later meeting has worked well, with a number of new an exciting avenues identified for this type of work at NCAR. I also spent a lot of time working to put together the BEACHON project in collaboration with Alex Guenther and Beth Holland. I have also helped with BEACHON and TIIMES retreat planning. Scientifically I am working with Changhai Liu to conduct a study on the impact of aerosol particles on the formation of precipitation over the Continental U.S. using a cloud resolving model. I wrote a white paper describing the new Colorado Headwaters Program. This program will start 1 October 2007 and will entail an investigation of the impacts of the climate change on snowpack in the Colorado mountains using a high resolution model. This will become my main scientific focus of Water Cycle research in the future. |
